Internship ProgramThe goal of our internship program is to provide students with a “hands-on” experience in the landscape field. During the internship, students will have the opportunity to experience all aspects of how a full service landscape company operates. We'll give the student a real taste of what it means to be involved in running an award-winning company in one of the nation's most exciting business markets, the beautiful San Francisco Bay area and Silicon Valley. This opportunity is not for everyone. It's more than a summer job, but rather a chance to make a contribution and be part of a winning team. Option #1 - Rotation Program This internship option is recommended for students who haven't had a previous internship experience. Students will sample the following: - 3 weeks Landscape Management Division
- 3 weeks Irrigation Service and Troubleshooting
- 3 weeks Landscape Enhancement Division
- 1 week Estimating, sales, and management
- 1 week Area of your interest
Option #2 - Customized Program This internship option is recommend for students who have previous work or internship experience and wish to focus on a particular segment of interest. Students will spend the majority of their internship in one particular division, but will also have the opportunity to gain some experience in other divisions. Option #3 - School Structured Program This program is designed to assist students in following the criteria required by their schools. All students will also have opportunity to be involved in various projects related to the areas of their interest throughout the internship. All students will have the opportunity to be involved in company meetings, outings, training seminars, and possibly local ALCA or CLCA functions.
Management Experience Students will have the chance to spend time with the upper management of the company to experience their duties including some of the following: - Budgeting and financial planning.
- Estimation and bidding of current or potential accounts.
- Developing sales leads.
- Client contact and sales calls.
- Scheduling of departments.
Landscape Maintenance Students will gain experience in the following: - Scheduling, planning, supervision, communication and other managerial skills.
- Estimating new bids and accounts.
- Client sensitivity and meetings.
- Proper pruning techniques.
- Applications of fertilizer, pesticides and proper IPM practices.
- Proper training and the usage of mid-sized mowers, string trimmers, blowers, edgers, reciprocators and other types of equipment.
Landscape Irrigation Students will gain experience in the following: - Proper irrigation auditing techniques and water management.
- Estimation, take-offs, and small irrigation designs.
- New client irrigation system go-throughs and analysis.
- General knowledge of basic hydraulics.
- Repair of mainlines, laterals, valves, heads and other system components.
Landscape Enhancement Students will gain experience in the following: - Scheduling, planning, supervision, communication and other managerial skills.
- Estimations, take-offs, and small designs.
- Grading, irrigation, drainage, soil preparation and planting techniques.
- Proper training and usage of skidsteers, rototillers, trenchers, and other types of equipment.
All interns will be assigned to an internship coordinator within the company. The internship coordinator will be the primary contact for the student and/or their advisors and will provide reviews for the students and assist them with any questions that may arise.
